Well, tonight will be a week since we set off, and tomorrow a week since we arrived. It's rather intense here, so it feels a little longer.
The work we do is hard but extremely satisfying, due to both its simplicity and the obvious positive effect it has. So far we have been sanding, wiping, painting, dusting, and washing in the younger boys' home in the mornings, with one daily golden moment at about half past ten when one of the older boys brings up a tray of sweet, milky coffee and we break out the biscuits.
What makes this so different from what little manual labour I have done elsewhere is the weather. It is always about thirty degrees centigrade, and belting it down with rain half the time, which dampens the spirit somewhat. For the other half of the time, it is cloudy and muggy, which makes me feel tired and lethargic.
Nevertheless, I am trying to work to the best of my abilities, and God is helping. The difficulty of living and working in a place which is very new to me makes it easier to turn to Him, and He has already shown power and healing in myself and the team. For example, I got my first reasonable sleep last night, which was very much an answer to prayer.
Finally, although we have so much more to do here, and so much which awaits us, I am sure God will keep us safe and strong. Moreover, I am certain that He has many more works and miracles to demonstrate.
